Melatonin is a hormone that is produced in the body and plays an important role in sleep. It is controlled in the brain in the pineal gland (epiphysis) according to the diurnal rhythm and is inhibited by light. It binds to specific melatonin receptors and is also synthesized in the hair follicle. It controls and regulates hair growth and also has a very protective function as a radical scavenger and has an antioxidant effect against UV light and cell toxins. The change from the telogen (resting) to the anagen (growth) phase of the hair can be promoted by the use of melatonin.

The quality of the blood sample obtained when using PRP tubes depends to a large extent on the material of the tubes. In order to ensure safe and easy blood collection, blood samples are collected by means of PRP tubes using the negative pressure method. These tubes are manufactured in France and contain a melatonin additive of 0.0232 mg. With 10 ml of PRP tubes it is possible to produce about 4-5 ml of plasma. A centrifuge setting of 2000 rpm for 7 minutes is recommended for plasma preparation.

Only the addition of heparin or citrate is required before the blood sample is taken.

Melatonin has been shown to stimulate the hair follicles

A study published in the International Journal of Trichology investigated the influence of melatonin on hair loss. The results showed that topical melatonin solutions could be an effective treatment option for hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia.

Various studies involving men and women found a significant reduction in hair loss after taking melatonin. It was also found that a melatonin solution applied to the scalp increased hair growth compared to a placebo.

Although the exact mechanism of how melatonin promotes hair growth is unclear, it may be related to circadian rhythms that control the sleep-wake cycle. Because safety and tolerability were good in all studies, topical application of a cosmetic melatonin solution may be considered as a treatment option for androgenetic alopecia.
